Beatrix Potter was born in 1866 and her professional career commenced when she sold  her first drawing for a christmas card design of her pet rabbit Benjamin. A couple of years later she wrote and illustrated a story about another of her pet rabbits Peter.

The other animals soon followered with Mrs Twiggy Winkle, Jeremy Fisher, Jemima Puddleduck and Samuel Whiskers making their appearance in stories.
